The flag of Mauritania consists of a yellow crescent and star in the center of green field. The crescent and star and the color green represents Islam, the predominant religion of the country. Yellow represents the Sahara desert, which covers the northern two-thirds of the country. No joke, this flag was adopted April 1st, 1959.
