The flag of Qatar consists of two regions, one white and one maroon, separated by a nine-point serrated edge. The region of Qatar was known for its production of the maroon colored dye, hence giving the country a long history with the color of maroon, also the color of white is used to represents peace. The nine points symbolize Qatar becoming the 9th member to the Trucial Oman, a group of Persian Gulf governments which were signatories to treaties with the British government.This flag has a ratio of 11:28, making it the only national flag whose width is more than twice its height. Qatar adopted this as its national flag on July 9th, 1971, shortly before gaining its independence.
