The flag of the Japanese Prefecture of Kumamoto consists of white stylized Katakana character of Ku on a red field. Also, the white region surrounding a red circle represents the island of Kyushu, on which the prefecture resides. The red circle is an indication of where the prefecture is located on the island. This flag was adopted on July 23rd, 1966.
