The flag of the Japanese Prefecture of Gunma consists of white stylized Kanji character and three white crescents on a purple background. The three crescents represent three large mountains in the region called The Three Mountains of Jōmō. They are Mount Akagi, Mount Haruna, and Mount Myōgi. The color purple was used as a refined color suitable for Gunma’s cultural inheritance. This flag was adopted on October 25th, 1968.
